Conference in Gdynia, Meeting on the Report, and Workshops in Mielno

A scientific conference at the Naval Academy in Gdynia on ‘ICT Crime XXI’, a meeting on the latest piracy report and further training for police officers – these are Sygnał’s recent activities.

The scale of video content theft on the Internet, losses to the market and methods of combating it were discussed by Sygnał’s President Teresa Wierzbowska on June 7 in Gdynia. The topic of TV content theft appears at the Gdynia conference every year. This year we presented there the most important data from the new Deloitte report on piracy in Poland, which was commissioned by Sygnał.
The report itself was also discussed earlier among Sygnał members. The document is the most up-to-date compendium of knowledge about the Internet piracy on the Polish market from the point of view of demand, scope and damage caused. The report will be published in June this year.
We are also continuing with workshops for police officers. At the end of May in Mielno, 65 police officers from the West Pomeranian and Lubuskie Voivodeships took part in a two-day training course as part of an educational series celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Sygnał Association. Zbigniew Taraś, Paweł Watkowski and Piotr Wójtów discussed the specifics of TV theft crimes on the Internet, presented the association’s recent achievements, and described the scope of cooperation with law enforcement authorities and its effects. Practical workshops in sub-groups were conducted by lecturers from the Department of Crime Studies of the Institute of Criminal Services of the Police Academy in Szczytno Szczytno lieutenant Wojciech Warczak, lieutenant Pawel Tanski and captain Marek Miałkowski. The entire series was covered under the honorary patronage of the Police Chief Commandant and has already been attended by nearly 400 officers.
