Police officers fighting economic crime from the Provincial Police Headquarters in Olsztyn arrested a 49-year-old man suspected of cardsharing. For several years now, an inhabitant of the Mrągowo poviat has been illegally sharing access to the programs of paid digital platforms.
As a result of searches carried out in 3 voivodships, three cardsharing servers serving about 800 users were liquidated, a number of objects were secured in the form of devices used to distribute TV signal, TV set-top boxes, documents, telephones, SIM cards, computers, money and the cryptocurrency BitCoin. Such a crime is punishable up to 10 years’ imprisonment.
For future penalties and fines under the preparatory proceedings, the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Olsztyn secured a BitCoin worth about PLN 600 thousand, real estate and a vehicle with a total value of about PLN 400 thousand. The case is a developmental one.
The total losses incurred by companies from the media industry are currently estimated at about PLN 6 million.
