The fifth edition of „MESA Europe Content Protection Summit” Conference was held in London on November 14, 2018. The Conference was on the IPR Protection and combating piracy. The Signal’s representative was present among the speakers of the Summit.
Apart from Sygnal Association over 120 participants took part in the Summit including representatives of organisations, institutions and creative market companies from Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Among the attendees there were present also representatives of BBC Studios, Virgin Media, ITV, Warner Bros, Walt Disney EMEA, Premier League, European Broadcasting Union, Twentieth Century Fox Film Co, Universal Pictures, beIN MEDIA, 21st Century FOX, NAGRA.
The Attendees discussed the specificities and increasing scale of piracy in each country and the means of addressing this crime. Both the speakers and the other attendees paid special attention to mutual cooperation in particular in the context of increasingly advanced technologies.
The need for trans-national exchange of good practice and experience in the face of the piracy phenomena was pointed out by our representative – Michal Otrebski. In his presentation titled „Putting Poland on the Piracy Map” he apprised of the “Warsaw Declaration” that reinforces international antipiracy front and was concluded within the frame of the Warsaw International Content Protection Summit. Besides, Michał Otrębski informed on the most commonly used and the newest methods of an online intellectual property theft in Poland and Central-East Europe. He also indicated the solutions to tackle this phenomenon and highlighted cooperation with relevant law enforcement bodies as well as about ongoing educational initiatives addressed to prospective recipients of a stolen content, advertising agencies and payment intermediaries.
