Record verdict of PLN 2.5 million for illegally sharing the signal of pay-TV platforms.
A resident of the Mrągowo district must pay compensation to the two aggrieved broadcasters, Canal+ Polska and Cyfrowy Polsat – members of the Sygnał Association. The court also sentenced the perpetrator to one year’s imprisonment, suspended for three years. The verdict is final.
The procedure was thwarted in 2019 by police officers from the Economic Crime Department of the Olsztyn Provincial Police Station. The operations were carried out in three provinces – Warmian-Masurian, Greater Poland and Silesian. The service was used by 600 recipients, and the perpetrator operated for 3 years.
The total losses suffered by media companies are estimated at around PLN 6 million.
